❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Welcome to the 13th Avenue BMX Club FAQ.
This page answers the most common questions from new and returning riders and families.
If you’re brand new to BMX, you may also want to visit our BMX 101 page for a simple introduction to the sport.
🚴 Getting Started
How old do riders need to be?
Riders are eligible to start BMX if they turn 5 years old by December 31 of the current calendar year.
Example: If a child turns 5 at any time during this year (even on December 31), they are eligible to ride this season. If they do not turn 5 until next year, they will need to wait until next season.
There is no upper age limit in BMX is for kids, teens, and adults.
We highly recommend getting kids on a balance bike as soon as possible (often around 18 months to two years old), as it really helps them develop their balance and coordination quickly. This early start builds a strong foundation for a smooth transition to a pedal bike and, eventually, a BMX bike.
Do I need experience to join?
No experience is required. Many riders start with no racing or BMX background at all. Beginners are always welcome.
Can we come watch before joining?
Yes! Families are encouraged to come out and watch a practice or race night before registering.
📝 Membership & Registration
